Hi everyone, any big plans for new years eve? None here, just stay at
home and watch it on the TV as far as I know now. Had a pretty nice
christmas here. I'm trying to get my candy ate up so I can try to
quit eating sweets again this next year and lose a few pounds. One of
my goals for the new year. Hope everyone is doing well! Take care and
I'll post again later.
Bill
Hello everybody, we had a very nice Christmas dinner Saturday. There
were just a couple who didn't make it which was alright because it
was crowded enough with just those who showed. Has a delicious ham
with other asorted dishes to go with it. We had it in a double wide
trailer and it got pretty warm with everyone inside. We played bingo
and everyone brought gifts to get when you bingoed and after the
gifts were picked from the table there was a 10 minute time limit
where when you bingoed you got to pick someones gift from their pile
and got to keep what ever you had left at the end. Everyone seems to
enjoy this game. We also played 10 point pitch. A fun time for all.
I hope everyone has a great Christmas! Take care,
Bill
Hi everybody,
this is my first post. I've been kinda busy wrapping
up another semester another semester at the University
of Illinois at Chicago where I am getting a PhD in
Disabilities Studies (I, myself am C5 quadriplegic).
If anyone wants to check out the program then just go

Have a great holiday season folks!
Troy
Hi Bill,
I'm going to be spending Christmas Eve evening with my parents at my
sister's place, about 40 miles away. That's when Austrians exchange
presents, and we've carried on that tradition all my life. Then I'll
go back to my parents place, and stay the night there, and then I,
with my parents and a friend of theirs, will come into my town for
Christmas lunch at a fancy new hotel! It will be different, but I
hope it will all be ok.
This weekend there is a chance we might get some of the white stuff
(snow)....undoubtedly not much, but it's cold enough to settle and
perhaps stay around for a day or two. I really hope so....I just
love snow, if it does snow here then I'll be happy!
Have a great week yourself and enjoy all those Christmas dinners!
Brigitte
Do you have any big plans for Christmas yet? We start our Christmas
dinners this Saturday with my moms side of the family. We have ham,
mashed potatoes and gravy and the usual side dishes. We have games to
play after dinner. The weather is supposed to be decent so that will
be good. I missed a cousins gradulation from college last Saturday
because it snowed all day and was just to messy out to go to their
newly remodeled house.
Hope things are going well for you! Take care and have a great rest
of the week.
Bill
Hmmm....is it a star? Looks like an angel to me....LOL (Would be
more appropriate for this group too!)

Cool picture. I sure enjoy the news ones you put on the home page.

I was diagnosed with Narc. 14 years ago. Due to recent events in my life I
was forced into looking into my condition and the medication I have been
taking since diagnosed.
Does anyone have any ideas of why PWN are prone to Depression, apart from
the obvious, which is living with such a condition can get you down.
I'd love to here of these ideas.
Then maybe if anyone is interested I can discuss my own thoughts on the
subject
Caroline
Hi everyone, how are things going with you? I have been doing well
except for a little flu bug or something of that sort. It's hard to
believe that Christmas is just a couple of weeks away. I still have
some shopping to do. I survived Thanksgiving with all of its
trimmings, didn't over eat like I usually do. We had a nice family
get together that day and was nice to visit with some of the family
that I don't see that often. Does anyone have trouble at setting a
date for their families to get together for Christmas dinners? Seems
like we always have trouble finding a time so most can attend. This
year I made a data base for our Christmas card address labels so we
wouldn't have to address them all by hand. Hope thats not to
impersonal.
We got a couple inches of rain yesterday and this morning and maybe a
couple inches of snow today. It's hard to tell with the wind blowing
like it is. It's been pretty nice here temp wise but it's supposed to
get in the mis 10's tonight and only in the lower 30's tomorrow. Wish
it stay in the mid 40's but oh well.
I like the bridge on the home page. Really neat to look at. Take care
and enjoy the rest of the week!

Thanksgiving is a moment to remember
How little we can do to move the stars.
All we are and have we must surrender,
Nor is Earth less inscrutable than Mars.
Knowing this, we know the need for friends
Sharing both our pleasures and our pain,
Giving, though it may not serve their ends,
In joy the love that will our love sustain.
Very much like water in a lake,
In sum we serve as mirrors to the sky.
No one alone can heaven's picture take.
Given friends, we know the reason why.
(Found this on another message board, thought some of you might like
it...check out the first letter of each line!)
Glad to see you're on your way to conquering that fear Karen! Did
you go over the bridge, or just look at it? Maybe you'll be able to
come visit all your British friends someday after all! ;-) Just let
me know when you're coming, I need to clean up.....LOL
My dad is now out of plaster and walking again. He can drive, but
doesn't walk too far yet as his leg hurts if he overdoes it.
What is everyone doing on Thanksgiving Day there? We don't have it
here in the UK, but I'll be thinking of you all!
Brig
Hope everyone has a safe holiday season !!!!!!!!!!! Later, Theresa
Note: forwarded message attached.
I've never been afraid of heights....always was the tom boy....climbed
everything, liked the feeling being way up in the air....felt safe for
some reason.....ok, I know the reason....got chased as a kid and got good at
climbing, always way up on top of things.....my family
always figured I would either be a bridge builder or a horse jockey....
LOL, well on my days off this week I decided to help the fear of heights
thing...went to the Royal Gorge for the second time since
Moving to Colorado....The first time I only looked from a distance....I always
felt like a big chicken that first time using the excuse it
costs to much to go across and it was no big deel.....
I guess I got a new attitude, instead of the way I grew up thinking "why
bother", or "I'll fail".....a good friend showed me I can dare to
think "why not" and "go for it", or "Yes I CAN". Might sound odd coming from a
woman full grown, but I guess thats just the way it
goes sometimes.
I guess the picture on the home page isn't exactally a Thanksgiving photo, at
least in the normal sense of the word where people think
of food and families and leftovers...lol. But I have so much to be thankful for
in my life, I'm thankful for the adventure of each new day,
instead of worried what will happen next...I lived in fear so many years it
isn't funny, and at the time I never realized it, or had any
expectations of anything ever changing....
Where my life is now sort of makes me think of the Country Western
song...."there aint no Arizona"....that was me a few years
ago...it was like the places on the movies were made up, now living in
Colorado....out in the middle or thousadns of places I have
never seen, or been, or done....takes my breath away....
I guess I'm in a thoughtfull mood tonight LOL....uh oh...watch out :)
Happy ThanksGiving to all!!!

Chris
Hi everyone, hard to believe that another month has gone by so
quickly! Where does the time go? I hope that everyone had an
enjoyable weekend. We went and did our weekly shopping Saturday night
and ate at Pizza Hut and they got our order wrong for the second
straight time. The only good thing about it is that we got it free
both times but had our mouths set on what we had ordered. They said
they would make another one but didn't want to wait that long. I was
looking out my bedroom window this morning and saw 3 deer coming up a
grass lane that goes back to our pasture. They were just walking up
slowly and went by the house and jumped into the neighbors field. It
doesn't take much effort for them to jump very high. We have been
getting a little rain the past couple of days which has put a stop
for the farmers. We still need some beneficial rain before it freezes
up. Feel sorry for the folks in Califorina with the wild fires
destroying things. Thats just one of those things that can happen
when you build in that type of enviroment just like building by an
ocean. I don't know what to think about our troups over seas. Its not
right that they are being put in harms way with nothing much to show
for it. I hope it's worth it in the long run. I don't know when we
will get our first taste of snow. I hope it will be a while. Well,
take care and have a great week!
Bill
It's hard to believe that we might get our first taste of winter next
week. The dreaded 4 letter word, SNOW next week. We still are short
on water for going into winter but got 1/2 an inch of rain last
night. Last Wednesday evening there were 6 deer going by our place.
Its amazing on how tame they are. It won't be long before they become
gun shy. We have had warmer than normal temps this week which I have
enjoyed quite a bit. Seems the colder temps make me ache a lot.
It will take a few days to adjust to the time change but will like it
better I think. I wish they would just leave the time the same.
NASCAR season is coming to a close with 4 races left I belive. I'll
have to find another sport to get into untill next year. There have
been several driver changes this week with car owners wanting to get
some experience for the drivers working with a new team.
I hope everyone has a great week and don't scare the little kids on
halloween night. Take care!
Bill
Did the list go away?
Have not seen any communications for several days now. It could be that I've been asleep not others.
Just asking.
vic
My little devil wishes everyone a safe and Happy Halloween!
Yes, tomorrow night I set my clock back one hour......I like it this
way so I get an extra hour to sleep all over again LOL...and the time
change used to mess up people trying to be at early church too LOL,
your either an hour early or just getting there as people are
leaving.....not fun either way.
Hi Andy, shimmer63 here. I am swooping down into group to just say
hi LOL..
Where do we post our concerns or go talk about being sick and the
world and news media in chaos with these attacks? As of late I have
noticed there are places/people who are against sporting the flag and
speaking of terror concerns by verbally trying to clamp your mouth
shut. The news has stated to just be careful of what you say and who
you say it with.
We are so susceptible aren't we, being ill, to opinion brainwashing
*sigh..
Like you I have my concerns on top of healthy people that have them..
In regards to N, it has been pretty smooth sailing although my
lumboperitoneal shunt has been hurting lately..
take care
shimm
Thank you very much, Karen!
You're very kind.
( But we all knew that, didn't we? )
Ray
How are you all doing? Not much action in this group, so everyone
must be busy!
Here, our clocks change this weekend, so I think yours do too? I
know in the spring it's a different weekend for you and us, but I'm
sure it's the same in the autumn/fall.
Don't forget to do it!
Brig
Congratulations To Ray And Mary on your Engagement!!!!
Life is just beginning for you both once again, I give my sincere wish
you both have years and years of happieness together...I'm so Happy
for you.....Huggs.....Way to Go!!!!

Andy-
As I have stated and others have agreed with, posts
discussing narcolepsy-list issues are indeed just as
relevant to this list as posts discussing narcolepsy
issues. While I am certainly tempted to reply to your
taunts in kind, I will restrain myself. I have
answered every issue you mentioned in my previous
posts and if you failed to understand them I don't
feel the need to reiterate. Is anybody else disgusted
by the juvenile and personal attacks precipitated by a
simple "please keep on topic" post? Hmmmmm....if not
maybe I should just cancel my subscription since i
doubt I can learn anything from people who refuse to
relate on an adult level....
-Jeffrey
Wow, your poor dad. Hope everything is settled down now....what a way
to forget your troubles.
Have you decided how to spend the money from house sitting? Wish you
could come here, but no more days off until after
Christmas....sneaking 1 day off the first of November...Digger's son
is coming up from New Mexico, And I'm covering the studio this week
almost solo so Adriana can go to Texas. Things are good and we cover
for each other, so things aren't as strict as I'm used to....but at
times thats good.

Dear Unknown:
When I talked with Dr. Mignot about this very same subject, he said to me
that finding what which "sets off narcolepsy" is akin to finding a needle in
a haystack. It will be very difficult. Unfortunately, individuals afflicted
with narcolepsy don't get to a sleep center while they are developing the
illness, but only after the symptoms have already manifested themselves;
hence, there is no way of testing for something which might be causing the
hypocretin cells to die. It may be easier to find all the genes in the
autoimmune system (and otherwise) which are responsible for causing the
hypocretin destruction, developing a retrovirus vector and gradually (by
replacing the defective genes) eliminating the illness. It would take some
time, but eventually the illness would no longer be transmitted from parent
to child.
It may also be that there are several different "kinds" of narcolepsy
such as that caused by head injury, etc. In that event, there would always
be some narcolepsy around, but very rare.
If we keep our fingers crossed, reachers may just "stumble" across that
needle in the haystack.

Ok..
My parents and their friend are back from their vacation in Spain, so
I am now back sleeping in my own bed in my place with no dog to take
care of!
The last couple of days were quite eventful for my parents.
My dad slipped on his steps and fell down them...he broke his leg and
had to go to hospital in Spain where they wanted to operate right
away. He didn't want that as he was flying back less than 24 hours
later and it would be unsafe for him to fly. So the doctors gave him
a half-plastercast to allow room for swelling and to reduce the risk
of DVT (blood clot).
Then their flight got cancelled, and they were put on a later flight
in a bigger 'borrowed' plane (to accommodate the extra passengers)
2.5 hours later arrival time. In a way they were lucky to be
delayed, as the airline didn't really want to take him so soon after
having the cast. They had to wait such a long time for their
baggage, that there was a special announcement in the airport to
apologise to everyone waiting!!!
Then I was waiting and wondering where they were, when suddenly there
is my dad in a wheelchair!!! My jaw dropped to the floor, I was so
surprised! I had known they were going to be late as they had called
me, but they hadn't mentioned anything about a broken leg!
We got everything into my car - the wheelchair belonged to the
airport - but my dad had to buy crutches in Spain, and I drove us all
back home while they talked about everything that had happened.
We got them home at about 11.30pm, I had a quick drink before coming
back here to my own place, there's no place like home! My dad had to
inject himself with painkillers, and insisted on going upstairs to
bed rather than using the bed they had brought downstairs for me to
use while I had been there. I worried a little about that, their
stairs are not nice - easy to slip on, and open so there is a gap
between each step.
This morning my mum took my dad to the accident and emergency
department at the hospital, and dad waited a long time to be seen.
Eventually he was sent straight to a ward and was not allowed to go.
The leg is swollen too much to be operated on and has to be kept
elevated and still. So that's where he is now.
So much for a vacation to forget about all the treatment he had for
his cancer through the summer! And my poor mum - she still has their
Austrian friend there, who will go back in a few days, she's had to
drive everyone around on their last day in Spain, she had to get all
the suitcases upstairs as dad couldn't do it.
Now that I've been sleeping most of today, I have some more energy to
offer any help they need or will need. I was very tired looking
after their place and their dog, but my own bed has made me feel so
much better.
Well, that's my news, I'll keep you updated as things happen!
Brigitte
The only time I ever helped run the combine was with my husband
Lawrence....he was "teaching" me to be a farmer....I did learn enough
from him that after he died, I was able to remove the snow plow from
the 1952 Allis Chalmers on my own, and the heat houser. Shocked his
family...and mine that I could even do it...but I wasn't interested in
impressing anyone I just wanted to go haying and the people at the
farm where his son Charlie needed someone to rake hay.....
So I hopped on and took off for the farm....once out there I backed up
and sort of drew a crowd.....some of the old farmers were on the porch
laughing....ok so I forgot the hitch but Charlie took me home to get
it, I did know what it looked like.....and got the hitch on and
realized they were laughing again....didn't bother me, was making
their day....and ok, so I forgot the pin, thought that came with the
hitch...I mean on the rake....watching those old farmers out of the
corner of my eye was more funny then me being a greenhorn farmer....I
thought they were going to wet their pants laughing so hard...and come
on it was an honest mistake.......but I got to go haying and I knew
how to do that.
I know how you feel missing it....I hope I can have a little place,
with some hay ground...and a stable for a few horses, and about 300
acres of useless foothills to go riding in....and maybe teach city
kids , or handicapped, or deaf kids to ride and enjoy them like I do.
I love the cooler weather, I can't wait until we get snow, the
mountains were looking so lost and lonely without their pure white
caps.....LOL.....ok, I better hush up before I get snowball in the
back of my head from those who want warm weather year round LOL......
Did you ever have a funny experience on the farm that happened to you?

Hi everyone, boy it's supposed to get really cold tonight. Down near
30 or a little lower depending on who you listen to. The flys are
really bothering me now. Looking for a warm place to be. The fall
colors are coming out now. The dry and now cooler weather is making
things change now and the leaves are falling off too. The farmers are
hard at work geting the crops out. The beans are disappointing with
there yield but he corn is doing better than expected. I miss this
time of year where you get to do the harvest and see what your work
earlier in the year has produced. Always loved running the combine.
Couldn't imagine what it would be like combining corn that produced
over 200 bushels per acre. We always tried for 150 or so on dads farm.
Hope you all are having a great week!
Bill
First let me say thank you to Susan Zencka for her
post in support of treating each other with the
respect that adults deserve...unfortunately it seems
that some people on this list simply do not get it and
find the need to resort to name-calling,
finger-pointing, and ad hominem attacks.
(I do not think I have been told to "Sit on it" since
elementary school...and I should hope those
individuals realize that their juvenile displays
reflect infinitely more on their own character than on
mine or on my simple, and ultimately respectful,
post.)
Of course no one has a "right" to tell anyone what
they can post. We are all equals in this forum.
However, there is an implicit agreement made when
joining the group that you will post material related
directly to the group topic. (And to Phil, nice try,
but posts like mine related to "Narcolepsy-list
issues" as opposed to "narcolepsy-issues" are also
relevant to this list...) In making my recent post, I
was not trying to deny anyone the right to express
themselves in respect to the recent tragedy, I was
simply (AND RESPECTFULLY) reminding everyone about
that implicit agreement and the whole point of this
list: discussion of narcolepsy. We all have our own
ideas of what that encompasses...it would not bother
me at all if someone were to post about Sleep Apnea,
for it seems to me that it is a sleep disorder that
may shed some light on sleep in general, which may be
helpful to ppl with narcolepsy. I find it hard to
imagine, however, that discussion of the terrorist
attack on NYC/DC falls into the domain of narcolepsy
discussion for anyone.
But the most important issue here is one of mutual
respect. I was very respectful in my request, and
simply did not deserve the response that I received
from certain individuals. This seems to be a pattern
for this list...as I have witnessed several incidents
in the past 6 months in which posting has devolved to
personal attacks after disagreement over a simple
issue. I find this behavior shameful, and hope that we
can all remember in the future to express ourselves as
often and as clearly as we desire to, but always in a
manner that shows respect for others and for
ourselves. It is not difficult, and is in fact quite
admirable, to respectfully disagree. Name-calling,
however, benefits no one, and only inflames any
situation.
Thank you all for reading and I hope this will be
taken to heart.
Respectfully Yours-
Jeffrey
What gives certain members (not naming names but you know
who you are) the right to tell us what we can and can not post?
Your not the owner or moderator of this message board.
I hate how a person makes a post , one simple little post, and
than they get bitched out about getting off the subject. It's one
lousy message, it wasn't ten or twenty messages, which would
than be considered off the subject. Give me a break.
I agree with Spinner, sit on it.
Immagination is seeing what can be while believeing as if it already is.
What you are afraid to do is a clear indicator of the next thing you
need to do.
Dear Kat,
You did a good thing with your post. I hope others will take this message and feel ashamed of their bad behavior.
Right now, I am lucky enough to be on my way to a USTA Norcal tennis match. I'm playing 4.0 women's doubles and hope and pray I don't fall asleep at the net like in the past. It only takes a split second of dreaming to get bonged on the head. I'm tell you all this and feeling humble that God helps me. Yes, my list includes n and that's the very least of my troubles.

Dear Group,
From the newsletter below, you will see that the events of the week in
NYC & DC will be having an effect on people's sleep all over the US.
Personally I am from Oklahoma, if any of you might remember something
similar occurred here April 19, 1995. This is on a much LARGER scale.
Most people haven't a clue what this is going to do to people all over
the US for weeks, months, and yes years. I also have PTSD, and I won't
apologize for mentioning another disorder here. People with PTSD are
already effected in very difficult ways.
Some of you may be LUCKY enough to just have N. but alot of us have
many more disorders, and they often are connected to having N. We may
not have the energy to go search out a "list" for each one, i.e. SA, and
RLS both very common in PWN.
So check out the newsletter below, get your head out of the sand, or
stop being so self-centered and see what is really going on.
This may be my last post, I am now going to NO MAIL until I decide that
for sure.
Sincerely,
Katrina
Hi Bill,
I'm not homesick, but I am getting very tired, with all the
responsibilities of running things here. My cat, who is also staying
here, has been sick with diarrhoea and other things, and I have had
her at the vets. She's on pills now to stop the diarrhoea, but
that's just one more thing I have to think about.
I will be collecting my parents from the airport on Friday, and I
will be very grateful to be doing that!!!! It will be a TGIF day!
As far as the dating goes, well, it seems to be going pretty well.
He's in London and I'm around 2 hours from where he is, so it's still
difficult to get to spend time together. But that just means that we
can take it nice and slow which is how I like it.
I'm still not sure I'm really over the last b/f, but there's only one
way to find out and I don't want to do that.
Well, time to go to bed now, I accidentally took a double dose of my
meds this morning, and I've been so sleepy all day. So I missed my
afternoon dose, and I'll now take another dose so that should make
things right again. I must not do that again!!! I didn't dare try
and drive today, I felt like I was really really drunk!
Hope everyone has a good week,
Brig

A beautiful picture for sure.....dooo
Sit on it.
People need to express there grief. And this is one way of doing it.
Nothing wrong with that. This is one time that it is really needed.
Spinner
Spinner,
I am not from New York, but I just wanted to thank
you also for your thoughts and prayers. It is great to
see the support and prayers from the people else
where. The terrorism not only effected the U.S. and to
see everyone pull together is something all of us have
not seen or heard of in such a long period of time.
We as a nation and we as a world will stand strong and
come out of this. Hopefully all terrorism can be
stopped everywhere and that no country will have to go
through this.
God Bless Everyone

Dear Narcolepsy Listers-
While it is certainly reassuring and heartwarming to
know that so many people (and people with Narcolepsy!)
across the nation and world feel great compassion for
and wish to support all the victims of the NYC/DC
tragedy, I would just like to point out that there are
much better forums in which to express these
sentiments. Let's please keep this list reserved for
discussion of Narcolepsy and related topics only.
I understand that there are many people who feel they
have created a community of friends via this list...if
there are things you would like to share and discuss
with each other that are not directly related to
Narcolepsy, please do so through private e-mails
and/or e-mail lists. Thank you.
-Jeffrey Tyrrell
Hi Brigitte, its nice that you are able to help out with your parents
house while they are away. Do you get homesick to be back in your own
place or can you sleep ok going back and forth? I think it would be
hard to sleep on different beds for the first couple of days. My
nephew is a sophmore in high school and they had their homecoming
parade Friday afternoon and it started to sprinkle just as they made
their way past us once. After they started back it kept getting a
little harder and by the time most of them came by again. By the time
I got in my van it really came down hard. Had a little hail mixed in
with it but by then everyone made it to safety. As we were leaving
town a fire truck was looking for tornados as the county was under a
tornado warning. It was chilly at the ball game but they won with a
shutout, 55 to zip. That will make the dance tonight worth going to.
You said a while ago that you were dating again. Hows that going if
you don't mind me asking? I think about dating but never get past
that point. I hope that its working out for you! Take care and have a
great week!

Thanks for the good wishes and info. I saw the sleep specialist yesterday
and we are doing the sleep studies on 9/17-18. Will keep you all posted.
This site has been very helpful to me.

Hi Bill and everyone else,
Good to hear what you've been doing. Weather here has been
similar...got some rain here yesterday, much needed, and I hope we
get more.
Where are you that you get hummingbirds? I'd love to see one
feeding, only ever seen them on TV.
Still at my parents house, got another 10 days of looking after house
garden and animals before they come back. So still busy!
Brig
Good Luck ,
When you go in , don't worry all those wires are only glued on not stuck
in your head. hahahah
Let me know how things went for you.

Hi all hope that you had a nice weekend and are getting the week off
on the right foot! We got some rain yesterday and over night. We are
short on moisture so the more the better. I'm doing an internship at
a local newspaper, which has been an interesting adventure. I didn't
realize how much went into a publication once a week. I don't see how
they can do one a day in the big cities. A lot of effort goes into
them.
The temperatures have been in the 65 to 70 range and I'm having a
little trouble getting used to that. I'm more comfortable with the
mid 80's but I'll get through that. With the amount of black wolly
worms around we are sure to have a bad winter. That's one of those
old tales on predicting the weather. The humming birds have been
drinking a lot lately. Its fun to watch them protect their feeding
area.
How's the ear infection coming along wind? That really sucks that you
can't go and do what you like to be doing up in the mountains. The
sacrifices one has to go through to get well. I hope that you are a
quick healer!
I wish everyone a great week! Take care,
Bill
I hope you are all safe and do not have anyone in the mist off all the
devastation that is going on at the moment. thoughts and prayers with you

I tried Ditropan for my bladder problem....they gave me samples and a
prescription...went to get the prescription filled and it was to high
priced, for the amount of good it does me. It didn't do anything for
the incontenence....all it did was get rid of the oder.
I just told them I don't want it. I did get a referal to a
regular doctor that can figure out what I need to have done to get the
Bladder working right, but that has to wait right now too....but soon
on that, its second on my list of priorities.
My sister, the nurse, thinks I will need laser surgery for the
bladder, anyone have that done? And if so what was it like?
Since I moved to Colorado from the flat lands around Michigan and
Wisconsin, I have been having ear trouble...found out the mountains I
love so much don't love me back.....caused my one ear cannal to be
completely blocked, causing major problems with dizzyness, earaches
and headaches. Fist they though I was alergic to something, but now
its only the altitude, my ears aren't equalizing the pressure, and
when I used to go up in the mountains different times on my days off
it only made things worse. That last trip to Loveland pass did the
most damage....it was almost 12,000 feet and even though I had alot of
trouble that day I wouldn't have missed it. On meds for that now,
thats my #1 priority. Its been a month since I was up in the
mountains, and it sounds like 4 weeks to ? Sort of depends on if they
can get the blockage cleared up.
I was told over and over not to move, keep taking care of my mom, stay
near friends and family and stay safe, dreams were dead in me, why
stir things up, was told before I started I would fail...LOL...Even
got the "I told you so", more than once from friends...
I'm still glad I'm in Colorado.....to have a dream for so long and
have let it die, would have been far worse than going for it and
having obsticals along the way....My life is so much more fulfilling
out here, and I never expected a free ride and everything perfect :)
P.S. The family member who was so much against me moving was my
closest sister Dee...she said I would fail...I was through way to much
to do this foolish thing....My son was driven to move to
California...he had this burning desire to get away..sort of brought
back memories of the busses through town going west I always wanted to
sneak onto when I was a kid...but back then even West was
foolish...heck there wasn't anything real after Iowa LOL...so I went
East LOL.....OOOOOOOO Michigan and the city LOL.
I believe in Dreams...I just have to learn how again...
Karen
Time for a little Clasical music......no howling now....

I knew that...didn't you??? lol Only if I would have had my way in high
school..we would have started at noon. lol Take care sweetie. Love, Marilyn
Hi Bill, I found the barn in Webshots....can't take credit for finding
it....I used to go out and look for cool things like that....been
preocupied with the mountains.....lol....I need to get in gear and
just get off the beaten tracks and wander off in search or awesome
shots in Colorado....but some of the roads I want to check out, only
mountain goats should try....I have a bike...but nowhere near in shape
to handle the steep winding roads where all the cool things can be
found....
And I have another challenge right now...my ears are plugged...and
I've been told not to go higher or lower in elevation or I could
really hurt them....so that really messes up my days off...I was
trying to get to Vail when I found out no more mountains until they
ears get fixed....but I'll get there, not possible to keep me out of
the mountains after I finally made it out here....I'm trying to
behave...and I suffer for it when I don't. I want to get photos of
Vail in the summer.....the quiet relaxed side of the Resort
town....kind of awesome looking in busy places on an off season, when
things are quiet and not so tourist oriented. Always heard of Vail,
and I got within 25 miles of it....going alone if I can the next time
I go, that way I don't have to turn back, be nice to spend the day
there, with green grass all along the mountain side.

This is a regular report on new developments in the world of sleep
from the National Sleep Foundation. Feel free to share it with a friend!
A study of high schools in Minneapolis shows that later
start times is giving students more time for sleep and has a number of
other beneficial results, including better attendance, better grades,
and better behavior.
The report was conducted by the University of Minnesota's Center
for Applied Research and Educational Improvement
(http://education.umn.edu/carei/Programs/start_time/2001exec_sum.html).
The National Sleep Foundation hails the report as an
indicator of the benefits of later school start times for high school
students in a news release at
http://www.sleepfoundation.org/PressArchives/teenssleepmore.html. NSF's
Sleep and Teens Task Force developed a research report and resource
guide for schools, parents and teens, Adolescent Sleep Needs and
Patterns, available at
http://www.sleepfoundation.org/publications/teensleep.html.
Doctors , have to go through all test to eliminate
all possibilty of everything there is to consider on what specialist to
send you to.
than from there you will see a Neurologist , from there he will get to
the bottom of what you have.
I know it's a long procedure to have to go to just to get the name of
what you have.
Be patient and stay in there.
We have all been through this .

Hi wind, I was wondering where you found the barn at? I haven't seen
one quite like that one with its square design and overhang. Its
really interesting. Hope all is well for you! Take care,

Hi wind, not doing too much here for the holiday as it has been
raining and cool the last couple of days. We have gotten 5 in. of
rain since Thursday so a lot of the outdoor activities have been
dampened. Being in a wheelchair and makes a very bad for me to get
around. So I stayed in the house and watched NASCAR Saturday and
Sunday. And just stayed in the house today finishing a book that I
started reading a couple of days ago. And I have been watching
tennis when it hasn't been rained out also. I got into watching
tennis when I had a ruptured disk in my back and I was tied down to
the floor for about two weeks. So we part of having homemade
tenderloins for supper tonight. I love those. I hope you have a
great week. Take care!
Bill
Hi there! I hope everyone has an awesome day today for Labor Day!
All I'm doing today is cleaning up around the house, being lazy, and
hopefully having a cookout later...what is on your agenda today?

Weedwitch and everyone,
What test is done to verify cataplexic? I'm new to the terms and
treatments except for the good research I've obtained through the
Internet health sites and this message group. I believe cataplexic
is
included in my symptoms. I have fallen to the floor, fallen down the
outside stairs departing a plane, and other times for no real reason.
I didn't trip or get dizzy or lightheaded. My limbs were weak and I
could feel myself falling but couldn't control it.
Another symptom is going into a dream state (not sure of terms) but
not going asleep. I continue to function and I know I'm awake but
I'm
doing something I'm not aware of until after the "episode." Very
hard
to explain but I think you all know what I mean. Example: day
before
Xmas I was wrapping presents when I had an "episode" where I knew I
was dreaming while awake and wrapping. On Xmas morning we passed out
the presents and there was one to me from Bob. I don't know a Bob
and it was in my handwriting. When I opened it, it was a present
meant for my son that I had wrapped the day before...apparently
during
the episode. During milder episodes, I know almost immediately what
I've done "off the wall." They only last a matter of seconds.
I could go on with all the other symptoms but you've heard it all. I
just hope the sleep specialist concurs and I can get on with life
again. I'm tired of tests and I want a diag. with a plan of action.
I've had several tests eliminatin seizures, thyroid, heart & brain
disorders, etc. This is my last shot.
Thanks for listening,
Terry

I can't convey how beautiful the picture is on the homepage. It
really caught my eye. The weather here has been pretty warm so far
this week. The radio station I listen to said it was 101 yesterday.
To hot for man or beast. At least I think so. We haven't had a good
rain all month. Thought maybe yesterday was going to be the day but
it went south of us. Dad hasn't mowed the yard for three weeks and
the volunteer trees are starting to get close to a foot tall. Mom
thinks it needs to be cut, looks pretty bad. But if he mowes the
yard it will turn really brown. The weatherman says it's going to
turn towards the cool side this weekend with highs in the upper
seventies. YeeeeeHawwwwwwwww. I think everybody will be ready for
that. If only we could get a good three inch rain in a couple of
days that would make everybody happy. I feel sorry for the football
players that have to play on this rockhard dirt that we have. The
first game is Friday night. We will get to find out just how good
this team will be this year with our first opponent.
I hope everybody is getting along good! Take care and have a good
week.

I miss sleeping with the windows open......I even have the head of the
bed by the window...my boyfriend says its not safe in the neighborhood
to leave the window open...not supposed to be living in a good
neighborhood, but everyone around here is really nice....I've even
left the car door open a couple nights by accident and its still here.
Our neighborhood is nothing like the bad ones in Detroit...that place
had me scared to walk across the parking lot.....I bet it wouldn't
bother me now to go work there.....that was when I was very new to
life in a city....found out people are the same no matter where you are.
And I grew up believing all kinds of crazy things.

Once again you've got a nice picture on the homepage. I bet it was
neat looking over the mountains the way you were even though it was a

Sounds like everybody's had a hot week. We have had unseasonably
cool weather it seems like this last week. It is warming up for this
week though, highs in the upper nineties and then cool off Monday. We
are needing some rain now. The yards are getting brown again. The
crops are really needing a rain too. It was nice to get to sleep
with the windows open and feel the cool breeze coming in. We've had
the air conditioner on the last two days because it's been hot and
humid. We've got a pasture beside the house and our tenant has put a
couple of cow and calf pairs in there. Its nice to be able and look
out over them during the day. He did lose one calf due to twisted
intestines or something to that matter. They got a Polaris four
wheel ranger to do chores with and he takes his granddaughter for a
ride in every once in a while, it's nice to see her in there riding
around.
I hope everyone has a nice safe weekend! Take care,
Bill
Hi all, hope everyone has a nice weekend. And for our friends in the northern
states, hope you'll get power back soon. Love to all, Theresa
Always remember: A REASON TO BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Note: forwarded message attached.
Been warm here east of Denver, in the 90's for a while, a little
cooler now, but the nights cool off...diferent from Wisconsin and
Michigan in the summer...we haven't had any bad sleeping nights around
here at all this summer...not one sweltering hot night where you can
hardly breath, let alone sleep.
This is the last day of my week long vacation, been lazy today. Had
Company from California most the vacation, they left yesterday for
Nebraska to meet another online friend, then plan to stop in on their
way back through tomorrow while I'm at work.
Wow did the week go fast, but I'm ready for work again, kind of odd
not having anything to do, I always feel like i have to be doing
something. We ate out a diferent place almost every day, ate out way
to much...lol...but did go places I never usually get to...did some
bike riding at the resivour, got some photos, had to get to Jakes
Diner in Golden more than once, near where I used to live....went
bowling, that was fun, Mike creamed me two games, so the last game I
made him play with a handicap.....we both bowled left handed
lol.....then it was evenly matched...he got a 42...lol...and I got a
62.... Before we left these kids came in and used up most the lanes,
and they put up these little railings.....my jaw about dropped...that
wasn't fair, I didn't know they had those there.....if we could have
played one more game I could have gotten alot higher score if I
COULDN'T get it in the gutter...bound to hit something....LOL
But the high point of my entire vacation was the trip up the
mountain....there is this tunnel that goes through the mountain called
the Eisenhower Tunnel I made it through about a week ago....but the
tunnel is to low for some semis so they have this paved 2 lane road
going around it called Loveland Pass....Anita didn't want to go up any
mountains so she stayed at the apartment to get some cards and emails
done and my boyfriend Digger, Mike and me went for a drive....I never
planned on going through the pass until we were almost there....then
we stopped at Georgetown to see if we could go on a train ride..but
they stopped running at 3pm and it was already 5.
So I wanted to go for the pass....heck semis drive it....if semis
drive it it can't be to bad.....right? LOL.....yes it can....LOL.
I was fine starting up it, didn't seem so bad, then the side road
disappeared....and the veiw was spectacularway down the valley I could
see the interstate, but i was only a little scared, then a little ways
farther we did a windy hairpin turn and now the cliff was on my side
of the car, and it went WAY down.....blacktop, no guard rails, and i
started riding the center line (only moved over for a car coming
toward us) and driving slower and slower....I wasn't dizzy or anything
but my hands were gripping the steering wheel so hard, it was like
they were froze to it, and Diggy kept telling me to pull over....I
just remember thinking he's nuts if he thinks I'm getting anyway near
that side LOL.
He grabbed the steering wheel and forced me to pull over....
The last time I was ever that scared was flying out to Colorado the
first time and having to get on a plane....but this was worse....I
made it within a half mile from the top, but they said to figure I
made it all the way up....Even had Mike in the back seat
scared....took Digger a while to figure out I wasn't faking, after
that he was sweet...and drove the rest of the way down, but made me
take over once down, because it was starting to get dark....I
continued west toward Vail until we saw the sign saying it was 25
miles more, then we turned around and came home.....
They still tell me that if I would have gone up there alone I might
still be there....lol....Diggy said "Greenhorn" LOL
Here is a photo of the veiw on Loveland pass.

Hi all, Well don't know about everybody else, but weather down here in south
Louisiana, USA is HOT. We have been in 90's, but heat index in 113, so hot. My
daughter has a lab dog , that everytime she let's him off his chain he goes and
jumps in their family pool, I told her, he's not a dumb dog, he loves the water.
As for us air condition runs around the clock, course the bills are terrible
from that, but what's a person to do. Well need to go eat breakfast and pick up
in house, babysitting later for a couple of days, my daughter and husband are
celebrating anniversary and are going out of town, so I get the 2 girls. Hope
all have a nice day.
Why are any of you , listening to this person about what he has to sell
you.
You need to jus ERASE him off the screen,
and tell him to get lost.
Listen to what YOUR DOCTOR HAS TO SAY
ABOUT THIS. the guy is loony toons.

Hi everyone,
Hope you're all enjoying the weekend. I've been melting in the hot,
hot weather we've been having here....90+F every day, didn't quite
manage to get up to the big 100 on Wednesday, but close! Blue sky,
no wind, no rain for a long time now.
Who needs to go on vacation when we have weather like this? LOL And
no sign of a weather change in the coming week...woohoo! This is
when we could use air conditioning in our homes......so good that my
car has it!

So if we were to order this bulk medication and it isn't what it is supposed
to be do we have to go to Singapore to get our money back. lol
You know it is so easy to fall prey to uneithical people when most of us are
already fighting sleep and many not being able to work. But Andy is right...I
want to know what I take into my body is safe. I would rather be alive and
sleepy than dead. I would like to believe that everyone is caring and has
good intentions but we know better than that. I would like to know who is
offering this bulk quantity medication. Show theyself.

Hi Bill, that sounds fun! I could never win anything when I did that
kind of thing....one time I put someone elses name in for a cool
looking quilt in a drawing at church and they won it...that was
cool...and they were wondering how they won it when it arrived lol....
I get weekends on Wednesday and Thursday lol......weekends are busier
at the studio so not many chances to get either of those days off for
me. But I sure look forward to my days off....like everyone
lol.....been venturing farther into the mountains, and I was told my
paintings are getting better.....sure makes a diference if you can
actually see for real what your painting....photos just don't do it
for me lol...
Slipped off to come home for lunch and thought I would say hi.

ok, I admit I'm a little nutty because I never expected the snow to
melt on the mountain.....I painted pictures with lots of snow on
mountains in the summer....went up in the mountains the other day and
it felt odd...I got to see part of the other side, and there were
mountains in all directions, north, south, east and west....the beauty
was astounding, and I longed to see it in the winter....I'm not even
sure what to expect then......been putting to rest alot of myths I
grew up believing....LOL
Can't wait to see what else isn't what I expected...
Life has become an Adventure since I moved out in Colorado.

LOL.....ok, I'm bad.......Ski season is around the corner, kids are
buying lots of things for school....a little bit more exploring for me
and I'm ready for more snow :).....I wanna get on one of those and
just go for a ride and get photos.....amazing the way they go over
trees and roads to get to the ski slopes....I wonder what its like
riding one of those ski lifts....

Yes, she DOES have a fantastic grandpa!! LOL
Humble, ain't I???
Thank you, Karen. I appreciate it.

Hi everyone, I had a good time over the weekend. My town had its
yearly celebration and I went every night to the entertainment which
wasn't to bad except for one night. I didn't like the band to well as
was others thoughts because there were many that left after
intermission. You had to be there for that so you could claim the
prizes they gave away during it. The last night my uncle's name was
drawn for a $50 savings bond but he wasn't there. I was really hoping
to win the $1,000 sweepstakes top prize giveaway but didn't even get
my name drawn for anything. Nothing new there. Not to lucky. The
Saturday's nights performance was pretty good. Two members were a
great comedy act. For the last part they dressed up and played a part
of a couple of Ray Stevens songs. He is a comedy country singer. At
least thats how I see him. Nobody left after intermission with this
group. It did get a little hot Saturday but the wind blew and kept
things nice. The MC said that in the 27 years of its celebration they
have only had to move the entertainment inside 1 night and after that
it didn't do anything out.
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and have a good week! Take care,
Bill
Congratulations To Ray.....He is a new Grandpa!!!! Hope everyone is
doing great! Have a fantastic grandpa :)

I just put a photo in the group's photo page so anyone who wants to

Thanks Bill! I've been good, a few problems at work, but not with the
kids, there great....we just did old time vintage photography at the
studio not long ago and so far its good with sales, and was alot of
fun getting people dressed up. My boyfriend got a bike with my casino
winnings.....lol.....now we have matching bikes! last night we went
out and he actually did 8 miles.
Got a couple days off coming up and I have no clue what to
plan....been painting again and will soon redue my paintings on the
photo page.
wish you were up in Aurora, the bike paths are perfect for
wheelchairs, all paved and no big hills to climb on the front range.

Hi Bill,
I'm doing great thanks! We've actually had a very long period of
warm sunny weather, that's certainly helped lift my spirits.
I've been spending quality time with my family, my 2 year old neice
actually asked for me to help her with bathtime one night while I was
there, I loved that. And the next night I got to read her a bedtime
story....so cool!
Sorry to hear about the weather causing problems in your area, glad
you weren't affected yourself though. And glad you'll be out and
about joining in the town celebrations.....enjoy yourself!
I went down to London by train last week, to meet up with a friend I
met on the net. We went around the city on the buses, most of them
were accessible for me, and visited a big toy store called
Hamleys...he even bought me a couple of Ty Beanie bears.... :-D I
hope to be going there again in a few weeks, and maybe go to the
zoo. He's a nice guy. (Yes, wind, I guess that means I'm dating
again - finally!)
Hope everyone has a good week,
Brigitte
I thought these were measured in milligrams? Mine are 200 mg each and I'm

How have you been this last couple of weeks? It sounds like the temp

all is well with you and your significant other! And at work also.

Whenever I recieve an announcement about a scheduled chat, it is
usually the next day. Would it be at all possible to send the
reminders out a day earlier? Thank you for your consideration.
Amie
Hi brigitte, how are you doing these days. I'm not to bad. The
weather has cooled off today enough to open the windows and enjoy
some fresh air in the house. We have been lucky in the last couple of
weeks that severe weather has went around us on all sides. My brother
lives in town and his house was struck by lightning. The cable
company says it didn't go in on them and the electric company says it
didn't go in on them but the cable was melted and blown off the pole
and the electric meter was fried as well. The little wheel that turns
in the meter wasn't turning but they had power. They didn't have an
explanation for that. That happened 3 weeks ago. Last week there were
bad wind storms that blew down lots of trees and some corn as well.
I'm thankful that we missed that wind because outside my room is a
tall old tree that could hit my side if the wind is right.
This week is our towns celebration with a carnival and nightly
entertainment. It starts Wednesday night with a talent show. Locals
getting up and singing and dancers and things like that. The next 2
nights are musical groups which sound pretty good by their
discription in the paper. Local groups have a dinner every night
which I can't go to because the building is not handicapped
accessible. But I can get a carry out and eat at my brothers. Don't
have to worry about finding a place to eat. Saturday there is a
parade and a garden tractor pull. I like to watch those pull. Thats
what my week and weekend will be filled with.
Hope things are going well for you! Take care,
Bill

Hi all, looks like a few of you made it through the weekend. We had a
nice 4th except for the heat. It got in the 90's but there was a
gentle breeze thankfully. My brother did an excellent job cooking the
food, 33 hambugers, 20 brats, and 16 hotdogs. He cooked them ahead of
when we started eating so he would be able to enjoy eating with the
rest of the gang. That worked out great. We had enough food leftover
for dinner the next day. Everybody enjoyed the fireworks they said.
Its been pretty hot here since then but we are getting some
beneficial rain today and its supposed to cool off a bit. The local
county fair started Monday so it was bound to be hot. A thunderstorm
is coming so I'll finish this later. Take care!

Can someone explain all these things from
"Merry Anne Marchington" <marry@...
Hello David and welcome to Angels. I'm a writer too. I mostly write
short stories, I also had a wheelchair bound hero in one of my
stories, he was paralized in a auto accident....in a short story I
didn't have to delve into the details of his disability....I just
wrote about his ability to solve a mystery...more....there were hints
of things in his past that bothered him that he could no longer do but
his sister was more bothered than he was, and walking on eggshells
because she was afraid she would say the wrong thing around him to
make him upset. But it was her problem she had to deel with not
his...he became deep in solving a mystery....
I've have friends with various handicaps, including 2 husbands, and
most don't act handicapped....they get along as good or better than I
do....my advice is...concentrate on the story and add the handicap,
maybe spina bifida or something...but its the story not the handicap
you want to write about if your writing fiction...and maybe send some
messages to some members in the club and ask them about there
situation and what all they can do if you like, most people are
comfortable talking that I have met.

Hi all! I'm a new member. My name is David Good and my disability is
Osteogenesis Imperfecta. I'm not in a wheelchair (yet, knock on wood)
but I have a question for you all.
I'm a writer and I am attempting to write a story from the point of
view of a man who is in a wheelchair. However, I have yet to decide
what disability he has, so I was wondering if I could ask advice on
what would be good possibilities, and what would be the pros and cons
of specific disabilities would be.
Specifically, I would prefer it to be a lifelong disability, that is
he was either born with it or it started when he was young. My
character is in his mid-20s and I want him to be able to perform
sexually if that helps decide which disability he has. In addition I
want him to be in a manual chair, not an electric.
I am considering the possibility that he has limited walking or
standing ability, possibly that he used to be able to walk a little
and no longer does.
For the most part, those are the only things I have decided. Can
anyone help me?
Regards,
Dave
